The other day after I came back from an overseas business trip, I went to an “izakaya”, it had been a while. I went to a chain izakaya and I ordered some beer and otsumami (snacks for drinking). The beer was served very quickly but the food was not coming. 30 minutes after I ordered, finally the food arrived.
The selling point of Japanese chain izakaya is a quick service and cheap dishes, but sometimes there are some places with a terrible service.
I don’t get upset when I have to wait in restaurants abroad, but I know that in Japan service is usually quick, so I’m often in a bad mood if the service happens to be bad in a Japanese restaurant.
One time, the food took so long to come that I left the izakaya before it arrives. I couldn’t bear it.

In this kind of izakayas with a bad service, most of the time the number of employees is extremely low. Those are chain restaurants so they can accommodate a big number of customers, but there is not enough staff to take care of everybody.
There are many restaurants cutting their workforce because of the recession, but I think it would be acceptable to rise the price of the food if it means we can get a good service.
