Pocket Money – お小遣い

通常つうじょう、「おこづかい」と言いうと親おやが子こどもにあげるお金かねを想像そうぞうする人ひとが多おおいと思おもう。しかし、日本にほんでは妻つまからおこづかいをもらっているサラリーマンも数多かずおおくいる。

Normally, when you say “Okozukai”, I think many people imagine the money that parents give to their kids. But in Japan there are many salarymen who get “Okozukai” from their wife.

結婚けっこんしている私わたしの友達ともだちの中なかには、夫おっとの給料きゅうりょうを全すべて管理かんりし、毎月夫まいつきおっとに3万円まんえんのおこづかいをあげている人ひとがいる。彼女かのじょの夫おっとは3万円まんえんで毎月過まいつきすごさなければならないのだ。

Among my friends who are married, there’s a wife who controls all the money earned by her husband, every month she gives him 30,000 yen as pocket money. Her husband must manage with only 30,000 yen a month.

以前いぜんの同僚どうりょうの中なかには、3万円まんえんのおこづかいを妻つまからもらい、けれどそんなに使つかわないので、妻つまに1万円まんえん返かえした、という強者つわものまでいた。彼かれは昼食ちゅうしょくも妻つまの手作てづくり弁当べんとうを持参じさんし、仕事しごとのあとも同僚どうりょうとあまり飲のみに行いかず、まっすぐ家いえに帰かえる真面目まじめな人ひとだった。

Among my former coworkers, there’s somebody exceptional who was receiving 30,000 yen from his wife, but as he didn’t spend money so much, he was giving her back 10,000 yen. He was bringing with him a packed lunch made by his wife and after work he was hardly going out to drink with his coworkers, he was a serious person who was going home directly.

夫おっとに3万円まんえんのおこづかいをあげている私わたしの友達ともだちはというと、この間あいだ新あたらしく買かったブランド物もののバッグを私わたしに見みせてくれた。話はなしを聞きくと、彼女かのじょは専業主婦せんぎょうしゅふにも関かかわらず、どうやら夫おっとよりも自分じぶんの好すきなことにお金かねを使つかっている様子ようすだった。必死ひっしで働はたらき、3万円まんえんのおこづかいでやりくりする彼女かのじょの夫おっとのことを考かんがえると、可哀想かわいそうに思おもわずにいられなかった。

My friend who gives 30,000 yen as pocket money to her husband showed me a new brand-name bag she had just bought the other day. When I listened to her, even though she was a housewife it seemed that, compared to her husband, she spends a lot of money on the things she likes. When I thought about her husband who works so hard and has to manage with only 30,000 yen I couldn’t help but feel pity for him.

サラリーマンは家いえでも会社かいしゃでも大変たいへんだ。

At home, like at the office, salarymen face difficult things.
