Visual Kei – ヴィジュアル系

先日せんじつ彼氏かれしと新宿しんじゅくを歩あるいていたところ、オープンテラスのカフェに、一人ひとりの女性じょせいと、長ながい髪かみで色白いろじろで、黒くろを全身ぜんしんにまとった華奢きゃしゃな男性だんせいが楽たのしそうに会話かいわをしていた。私わたしのフランス人じんの彼氏かれしは、その男性だんせいを見みると、「あの人ひと、男おとこ？女おんな？」という質問しつもんを私わたしに投なげかけてきた。私わたしが「男おとこだよ。」と答こたえると、彼かれは、「どうして日本にほんには女おんなみたいな男おとこが多おおいんだ？」と困惑こんわくした表情ひょうじょうを浮うかべて言いった。

The other day I was hanging around with my boyfriend in Shinjuku and we saw a woman and a pale and slim guy with long hair and black clothes at the terrace of a coffee shop. They seemed to enjoy their conversation. When my French boyfriend saw the guy, he asked me whether he was a boy or a girl. After I said that was a boy, he looked confused and asked why there were many guys who looked like girls in Japan.

確たしかに、よくよく考かんがえてみると、日本にほんには、やたら髪かみの毛けが長ながくて、華奢きゃしゃな男性だんせいがかなりいる。フランス人じんの彼かれからすると、「彼かれらはゲイなの？」と思おもうらしいのだが、そんなことはなく、彼かれらは女性じょせいが好すきなのである。彼かれらは分類ぶんるいすると、「ヴィジュアル系けい」っぽい男性だんせいということになる。

Certainly, when I think about it, I realize that there are many slim and long hair men in Japan. For my French boyfriend, they look like gay people. But actually they are not gay at all and they like women. They can be categorized as “Visual Kei”-ish men.

「ヴィジュアル系けい」とは、日本にほんにおけるロックバンドやミュージシャンのカテゴリーの一つで、大おおきな特徴とくちょうとしては、派手はでな化粧けしょう、髪型かみがた、衣装いしょうなどである。日本にほんでのヴィジュアル系けいの先駆さきがけと言いわれているのが、「X　JAPAN」というバンドであり、海外かいがいでもわりと有名ゆうめいで、フランス人じんの彼氏かれしも知しっている。

“Visual Kei” is one of the categories of Japanese rock bands and musicians. Their big special features are flashy make-up, hair style and costume. “X JAPAN” is considered as the first Japanese “Visual Kei” band and they are quite famous in foreign countries. Of course my boyfriend knows them.

私わたしが中学生ちゅうがくせい、高校生こうこうせいの頃ころは、ヴィジュアル系けいバンド全盛期ぜんせいきで、私わたしのクラスメイトにもヴィジュアル系けいバンドの大だいファンの子こが何人なんにんもいた。その中なかの一人ひとりの、Nちゃんは、「MALICE　MIZER」というバンドの大だいファンで、彼女かのじょのフォトアルバムには、彼かれらの衣装いしょうを真似まねた衣装いしょうを着きて、ポーズをとっている写真しゃしんがたくさんあった。Nちゃんは大だいのコスプレ好ずきであり、週末しゅうまつになると、原宿駅はらじゅくえきの近ちかくのコスプレ好ずきが集あつまる橋はしへ行いき、他ほかの「MALICE　MIZER」ファンの子こたちとそのバンドについての情報じょうほうを交換こうかんしていた。

When I was a junior high and high school student, “Visual-Kei” bands were so popular and I had many classmates who were big fans of them. One of my friends, N-chan, was a big fan of “MALICE MIZER” which was a very famous “Visual Kei” band. When I saw her photo album, I could see a lot of photos in which she was wearing imitative costumes of the band. She really loved cosplay so she often went to Harajuku on weekends and visited the bridge where many people who like cosplay gathered. She met other fans there then exchanged information about the band.

ヴィジュアル系けいバンドは昨今さっこんファンの間あいだ以外いがいではあまり勢いきおいがないが、一般いっぱんの男おとこの子この恰好かっこうに大おおきな影響えいきょうを与あたえてきた。ヴィジュアル系けいバンドのファンは大抵たいていは女おんなの子こであるが、もちろん男おとこの子こでも「ヴィジュアル系けい」に憧あこがれる人ひともいる。そんな彼かれらは男女だんじょ問とわず、長ながい髪かみやゴシック系けいの服装ふくそうを好このみ、独自どくじのファッションを作つくってきたのである。

Nowadays “Visual Kei” bands are not so popular except with hardcore fans. But they have influenced a lot young men fashion. The fans of “Visual Kei” bands are mostly girls, however of course there are also many boys who admire them. Those persons, regardless of the gender, love to have long hair and to wear Gothic style clothes. Moreover, they have created their unique fashion and culture.

日本にほんでは、男性だんせいが「可愛かわいい、美うつくしい」ことが受うけ入いれられている。アメリカ人じんのように、筋肉きんにくがもりもりで、男おとこらしい男性だんせいが好すきな女性じょせいも多おおいが、美うつくしく、繊細せんさいな男子だんしを求もとめる日本人女子にほんじんじょしも数多かずおおくいるのである。

In Japan, cute and beautiful men are well accepted. Some women like masculine men who have a lot of muscles like Americans, but there are many women who want beautiful and delicate men.
